If you visit Mu Cang Chai, don’t miss Hang Phu Loa Village

October 6, 2026

If you are travelling through Mù Cang Chải, there is one place you should definitely add to your route: Háng Phừ Loa.

Located around 6–7 kilometres from Mù Cang Chải town, Háng Phừ Loa is one of the most beautiful and lesser-known places to experience the iconic terraced rice fields of Vietnam’s Northwest.

Part of the core area of the nationally recognised Mù Cang Chải terraced rice field heritage site, Háng Phừ Loa is known for its sweeping rice terraces that curve naturally around the mountainsides.

Unlike the more famous viewpoints such as Mâm Xôi Hill or Vành Móng Ngựa, Háng Phừ Loa remains relatively quiet and less commercialised.

Here, the landscape feels more authentic.

The terraces follow the contours of the mountains, while small H’Mong villages and traditional farming life remain an integral part of the scenery.

It is the kind of place where you can stop your motorcycle, switch off the engine and simply listen to the mountains.

TWO SEASONS, TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LANDSCAPES

Háng Phừ Loa is especially beautiful during two periods of the year.

THE WATER SEASON — MAY TO JUNE

During the planting season, the terraces are filled with water.

Hundreds of rice fields become enormous natural mirrors, reflecting the sky, clouds and surrounding mountains.

In the early morning or late afternoon, the light transforms the terraces into a constantly changing landscape of silver, blue and warm golden tones.

THE HARVEST SEASON — SEPTEMBER TO OCTOBER

Then comes the harvest.

The mountainsides turn golden as the rice ripens across the terraces.

From above, the entire valley looks like a vast golden carpet woven across the contours of the mountains.

The scent of ripe rice fills the air, while farmers work among the terraces, harvesting the crop that has sustained these mountain communities for generations.

This is Mù Cang Chải at its most spectacular.

But perhaps the greatest attraction of Háng Phừ Loa is not simply the scenery.

It is the feeling of being somewhere that still belongs to the mountains and the people who live there.

For motorcycle riders, Háng Phừ Loa is more than a photo stop.

It is another beautiful detour on the journey through Mù Cang Chải — a place where the road, the mountains, the rice terraces and local life come together in one unforgettable landscape.

If you ride through Mù Cang Chải, don’t just follow the famous viewpoints.

Take the road less travelled.

Go to Háng Phừ Loa.
